BACE hosted a Celebration Evening on Saturday 13th January 2018 for members, families and invited guests. This was an opportunity to reflect on the journey and transformation of Bounce and Cheer Education since its inception in September 2016.
Bounce and Cheer Education (BACE) is a Community Interest Company, based in Glossop and is a dedicated sports venue specialising in Cheerleading, Trampolining and Disability & Inclusion Sport. The facility was born out of a selection of clubs and programmes that have been running in Glossop and the High Peak for over 10 years. Loud and Proud Cheerleading and High Peak Trampolining & Rebound Therapy Club have a collective membership of over 150 children and adults participating in weekly competitive and recreational sport. In addition over 40 children and adults with disabilities and additional needs attend weekly 1:1, small group or family activities.
In the last 16 months BACE has had many reasons to celebrate so took the opportunity to combine the following achievements with the official opening of the new Sensory Room.
- Community Award Winner of the Derby Telegraph Derbyshire Sports Awards 2017
- Community Award Winner of the High Peak Sports Awards 2017
- Installation of new Sensory Room (Funded by Children in Need, The Bingham Trust, High Peak Borough Council Initiative Fund, Tesco Blue Tokens Scheme and BACE members fundraising such as family events and bag packing in M&S Food Hall)
- BACE Leadership Academy – achieve over 3500 volunteering hours in 12 months
- 2x Cheerleading teams – National Champions
- New equipment and building improvements
- New sessions and programmes being added.
The Sensory Room was officially opened by BACE participants representing all three of the key disciplines aswell as young people from the BACE Leadership Academy. These members have been part of the BACE journey since September 2016. This provided an opportunity to demonstrate to the community the value of sport and the pride our members take in their sports facility and safe social space where they can meet new friends and share positive experiences. The Sensory Space has been installed as an additional element to the disability and inclusion programme to support children and adults with disabilities and additional needs. It is available as a community facility for all local people. More information can be found on the BACE website.
The BACE Leadership Academy currently has 22 members (Ages 12-21 years) who volunteer on a weekly basis leading, assistant coaching and providing administration and reception duty support to the BACE programme. All of the young people receive in house and externally led training to develop their skills they can then use in future employment or education. Mia Cooper, one of the leadership academy members spoke on behalf of the young people ‘It has been really important for us to be part of the journey and see how BACE has grown in just over 12 months. We all enjoy our leadership and are inspired by Emma and Hannah who set up BACE’.
Emma Champion and Hannah Jones, the Directors of BACE would like to say a special thank you to the BACE committee, made up of members, parents and coaches. The committee have been instrumental in the funding applications, family events and general support to BACE.
